For the first time in 27 years, Sherriff Gus DiCesari believes that county commissioners are jeopardizing citizen’s lives by refusing to fund eight new police cruisers and additional staff for his department. Commissioners remain divided with some arguing that funding for police is more important than funding programs for migrant workers. Commission President Anne Chenn reported this year’s budget of $127 million dollars was depleted by higher costs for employee health care; rising fuel prices and a new prison costing $32 million dollars. The commissioners voted 5-2 against the sheriff’s request for additional money.

I like it. It gets the point across without being too short or too wordy. It's hard to say if this would be a blurb on page seven or the front page of the local paper, so either way might be good.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your brevity, but worry about it as well. You've gotten to the point and highlighted the main point -- the denial of funds. I wonder though if the information given to us in our text reveals another controversy that may be newsworthy -- migrant workers in the community. I don't know the answer; it's just something I found myself pondering. Regardless, I think paper is well written and easily understood.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the fact that your story only needed my attention for a short time. I also was wondering if you should have explained how the connection between the migrant workers and the police funding was brought up. Overall, the story had the main points. Good Job.
ReplyDeleteSweet and simple is wonderful. Although I feel as if a reader would that there are more facts to the story and that this is just summarizing it. However I love the word usage and order you've organized it in. Good job!
